I am currently experiencing a 2010 Thomas that all of a sudden has real difficult steering. No matter what RPMs, it is still tight and requiring effort beyond the normal turning. There is no whine from the pump and the steering shaft/linkages/arms show no signs of obvious damage... It has the ISB engine if that matters... Any advice?

First isolate the components one at a time. Remove the steering shaft and check u joints for binding, lift wheels off of floor and see if you can turn the wheels by hand, if still tight drop one end of the tie rod and see if each wheel end turns, if left is tight remove drag link and recheck, you should find the problem in this manner.

Some of our C2's developed a stiff u-joint where the steering shaft meets the gearbox. This stiff joint has cause hard steering issues. Our mechanics replace the joint when seized, and lubricate it often with fluid film.

Had the same problem on our 2008 with the same U joint. Like Wayne says, check the U joint at the steering box
