Driver reported hearing some crackling sounds like something electrical from underneath the multiplex cover. She also said that the switches were getting hot. We checked a few things out, but never found any major issues. On her PM route, she said that the dash went blank along with all the lights, but came back on a minute later and stayed on. Gonna recheck connections on the multiplex today and check connections on gauges, switches, etc. Anybody have any issues like this?

Switches getting hot are normal, they used little light bulbs, not LEDs to light them up.

Ignition relay chattering? Check the alternator as well.

I took the multiplex cover off and the dash relay is getting pretty hot, hotter than the other relays around it. Replaced the relay and am waiting to hear back from the driver. Couple spades on the relay looked black as well like they were burning.

Is there a way to put a ammeter to measure the current first before you put a new relay? If there is an overload somewhere, it must be fixed first.

Otherwise, un-usual high current will damage the new relay just as it did for the old one.
