If you had to choose out of one of these Blue Bird buses to be yours, which one would you pick?
- Blue Bird All American Rear Engine - Blue Bird All American Front Engine - Blue Bird Vision - Another Blue Bird
I would probably choose an All American Rear Engine, because thats what I like and have mainly haven been on for the past 4 years.

I'm not too fond of Blue Birds, but since I have to choose, I'd take a 2005 SBCV International. Here are the options I'd choose:
Chassis:
-250 horsepower DT466 engine
-Allison MD-3060 automatic transmission
-Engine brake
-200 amp alternator
-Air brakes
-Air ride
-Block heater
-Cruise control
-100 gallon fuel tank, rear mounted, in-between frame rails
-Traction control
-Automatic tire chains
-Alcoa chrome wheels
Body:
-78 passenger
-High headroom
-Carrier roof mounted air conditioning system
-White ceiling
-Burgundy seating
-Black floor
-4 emergency pushout windows per side of bus
-3 emergency roof hatches, with top vent
-Air crossing gate
-Dual air stop arms, with strobing LED light heads
-Dual tone air horns. mounted above driver's window... or maybe one of those train air horns....
-Single warning lamp visor per lamp, with appx. 6" of paint surrounding warning lamps
-CRS G2 Fusion warning lamps
-"Wigwag" headlights, activated when red warning lamps turn on
-Warning lamp master switch
-LED stop/tail/turn lamps, armored LED clearance/marker lamps
-Destination sign, with frost-free storm glass
-Outward opening, double-out air door
-Bostrom air seat, 2 arm rests
-Fenderettes
-Frost-free storm glass on service door, driver's window, and first passenger windows per side
-MirrorLite Safety Cross crossview mirrors, heated
-MirrorLite Super Nickel rearview mirrors, power & heated
-Luggage bays, driver and passenger side, bottom must be even to skirt, and have rubrail
-Flat rear bumper (the one used on Visions)
-Acoustic ceiling
-Black hood
-White roof, curved edges
-Shoulder pads
-Panasonic AM/FM, CD player radio, with clock and XM Satellite Radio
-Interior PA system
-15 speakers, no speaker within two passenger lengths of driver
-Interior lighting: one light on each side of bus, mounted on ceiling, every two seating rows, for a total of appx. 12 total lights
-Drivers light, above driver's seat
-Strobe light, mounted towards the rear of the roof, with a guard. Switch to be located on control panel in interior of the bus.
-Steering wheel warning lamp and door controls (I'd wire it myself to make it like the IC CE... it can't be that hard )
-Koroseal pebble stepwell tread
-Tinted windows, full bus, except driver's window, service door, and windshield
-Two piece curved windshield
---
Hmm, are those enough specs?

Tyler, Having seen pics of the Portage BB AA RE's on Brian's site I have to say that I too really like them. Where I live in SE Georgia it's about all I see, Blue Bird RE's everywhere! But being a conventional kind of guy I'd still have to go with any Blue Bird conventional, leaning toward the 3300 with the Vision in a close second. |

My favoreite Blue Birds are the older GMC 6000s and the new SBCV on the International 3300 chassis. The All American REs are nice too as are the Freightliner conventionals they sold for awhile. |

I'm sure everyone is just waiting for the day that I actually go out and choose a Blue Bird!
The one Blue Bird I do like is the ROADRUNNER seen in the following link, http://members.aol.com/njtbus/Mtpleas4.htm If I had to choose a Blue Bird out of a lineup that's the one I'd take. |
If you have an International, you NEED customer service. |

Oooh, I like that one too. And the best part(or worst part depending on how one sees it), the body style is still current |

| I've always had something for the Pre 1989 All American REs. They were unique. My district had 3, Michigan spec'd 1985 models. Numbers 1-, 2-, and 3-85. |

I'll take an 80s Blue Bird International on the good-ol' S-1800 chassis. The 9.0 liter engine is what I'd prefer, manual or automatic transmission doesn't matter. I'd like it to have air brakes and the chrome door handle with a jackknife-style door.
Out of the ones listed, I'll take the All-American FE with a CAT C7 engine and an Allison MD3060 transmission, air brakes, and spec'd to Ohio's standards (though I'd like a jackknife door instead of the outward-opening) |
Due to the current economic condition, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off until further notice. |

Hey that bus sounds great Ryan! I really like the chrome door handle as well. Has anybody eer seen one of the current Microbirds with a chrome door handle? I thought they didnt offer it anymore until Stock transportation got a whole bunch of 2004 International 3800's that all have the chrome handle. Does rhis cost more or less than the standard handle?
Thanks,Mitchell |

I'd take a Ford/Bird over any other choice. It'd hafta have a good strong diesel in it, the classic Ford airbrake system, 65/66 passengers with high backed brown seats. Jackknife door & deffently something other than the ****ty door opener BlueBird uses (the chrome one sounds good to me though )and lastly a nice high backed driver seat (either air or non-air). But to go with the topics question, I'd deffently take the new 3300/Birdy. |

Geez Greg your Ford beats mine - but then again I didn't fully explain what I would want in it . I'd rather have the rope then foot operated air horn, be ore fun to tug on the rope haha. |

Out of the current lot, an All-American RE/ISC. Kinda like ours, although I wish they would at least spec tinted windows, double-nickel or eagle-style mirrors, and a cord-operated air horn, rather than the foot pedal. I've only been on the Vision and FE models, so I don't have an opinion, at least for the sake of driving.
For all models, a early to mid 90's All-American FE would be my bus of choice. The front-end styling on those models kick more butt than allowable by law! And if I could have a 3rd, it would be a mid-70's IHC/3208/automatic. In fact, I may have some of those pics floating around too. Will take a look. |

| I am a Thomas fan, only living 18 miles from thir plant here in NC, but my favorite Blue Bird was a 1973 front engine All-American. I bought it at a surplus auction the Central Dauphin School District had in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1990, when they were trying to get rid of all the pre 1977s they had. I only paid 450.00 for it! It was a pain climbing over the engine cowl to sit in the driver's seat, but I drove it for 6 years hauling school surplus furniture in it! The only thing I hated about it was the fact that it was higher off the ground than a conventional, which made it harder to load, but I loved driving down the interstate in a vehicle as long as most 18 wheelers!! I sold it to a man who made it into a camper in 1996 for 1000.00 and an old Wonder Bread truck he had, so I made my money back!! I needed the money to move back to North Carolina from Penna. I made a few trips to Carolina in it, darn near maxing out my Texaco card each trip! It was so long that it would block the view of my dad's house down here as well as his driveway, so I'd have to park it at a shopping center 5 blocks down the street and walk to his house. I loved the looks of the rear of it, because at that time, until 1975, the All Americans and Conventionals from Blue Bird still had a sloped roof line in the rear. |

If I, an avid IC lover/Bluebird hater was forced to pick a bluebird I would definatly have to pick the SBCV with 3300 IHC chassis. That is a beautiful chassis even on a BB

This is a mute issue for me... The only BB dealer in Alabama just moved to Thomas... and there is not a BB dealer left. So, systems can not even bid on BB right now...
But..I have heard a lot of good things about the BB RE...(then have to be better then the IC's RE that we had a few years back...I love IC, but those things were pathetic.)
I got to drive the new Thomas C2 recently....AMAZING!!
