Batteries completely drained on the bus, so we got two new ones, but now when we go to hook them up the engine starts cranking as soon as the batteries get connected. Our first thought is that the starter solenoid is stuck open, so we are planning on trying to hit it with a hammer and see if that helps, otherwise just replacing the starter. Is there something else we should look at first?

Man have never seen that but makes sense would cause this as well , but yea I guess you had constant power from the ignition relay being stuck to the "s" terminal would cause this as well good to know , guess its worth a check now instead of starter being put on immediately .

I have had a couple of those relays go bad and do this.

Glad you got it fixed!
