This is very close to me in Southern Illinois. The TD is a great guy that is in the same antique tractor hobby as I am and I talk to him quite a bit. 5 were sent the the hospital, treated and released. The worst injury was 22 stitches to the forearm. They understandably canceled the game that night but they played the next night and won the game! The TD told me that the driver had to be helped out of his seat belt because he was hanging from it and the weight wouldn't let him click it open. Lots of discussion about seatbelts around now. My thoughts are that we may want to look into laminated side glass to keep kids inside the bus and stability control. Although, no one was ejected and the rear axle came loose from the front spring shackle. So, I'm guessing that stability control wouldn't have worked.

Glad nobody got hurt. We had one in our area a week or so ago. Going to the driver stuck in the belt issue...they just released this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-VP59Z8Nc4

Ok so now lets put 20 or so kids in those and add fire or water. Good plan!

I fear this daily being a TD.

The students did an amazing job of exiting the bus. Was that a bus monitor or older student that came back and carried the little one out? If a student he/she needs to be recognized!!

Glad no one suffered serious injury in either wreck!!

I've been there...February 4, 2013. (The rollover, not the water or fire thank God). The video was amazing! 41 kids, once the "Oh sh**!" factor wore off, they lined right up and started out the back without the driver saying a word. They really do listen when we have drills, remember that above all else. I think I watched the video 50 or 75 times that night in amazement how well it went.

Another place had one a few years ago on an elementary route. She happened to have 4 "alternative high school kids" (see really bad kids) on there and they are the ones that got her down out of the seat and helped the little ones off the bus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mykGth0XeJc

The alt. school kids got recognized at the next board meeting

I was somewhat disturbed to see the kids ignore the Dayton driver's request for help.

Scary stuff. Glad no one was seriously hurt.
We put seat belt cutters in our vans and buses. We have a few buses with a couple of seat belts so drivers can secure car seats for their own children.
If you had a 72 passenger bus with seat belts, I really doubt one seat belt cutter would be enough and would be dull after a few belts. I think it would be a huge mistake to put seat belts for every occupant.

A great little product for personal use, Resqme, it has a seat belt cutter and spring center punch to break glass, with key ring. https://resqme.com/EN/product/resqme/
They show using it on land, I first saw it on a survival show with a vehicle submerged under water. Water pressure held the door closed, power windows inoperative.
