you can get away with a cheap HD code reader (ive got the OTC one) but if youve got several cummins engines then a laptop with cummins insite is really the way to go. the program is really an all in one tool. especially if you encounter regen issues. read the codes and the program links directly to all the info you need with a click.

Exhaust temp lamp comes on when bus is stopped during or after a regen.

Look under the dash and see if your connector is green. If it's green, you'll also need the new style cord to plug into it. The old 9-pin connectors will not fit.

Valleybusman. Get a subscription to Cummins INSITE then you can see what caused the codes and clear them as well. Do not be surprised to see many DTC's as often the assembly plant as well as the dealers do not clear the DTC's prior to delivery of the buses. Cummins quick serve is another great software to have if you have several cummins engines in your fleet.

Be sure to save an ECM image to your laptop before you clear any codes. If the code is active and you have a copy of the image then some dealers will use this for warranty repairs even though the codes are inactive when they work on the bus. We have had several repairs done by the local dealer after the code went inactive by exporting the ECM image to them.
