I have a coolant dripping from an area behind the alternator bracket on a Mercedes diesel, can't see exactly where its coming from and the alternator bracket is part of the front engine mount assembly so its not something you want to remove if not necessary. Are the waterpumps on these engines prone to leaking and having the coolant "trail" to and drip from this location?

the oil filter housing behind the water pump has coolant and oil passages for the oil cooler that is a common leak. for us 100% of the times its been where the rubber gasket has a 90 degree bend with a tab on it that cracks. its not a bad job after you have done a couple. in case you read the manual, it says the valve cover has to come off but it doesnt. shouldnt take more than 3-4 hours if you have the parts ahead of time. if you want, you can shoot me an email monday morning for part#s and such.
