2001 Dt466, coolant migrated to oil pan. I guess this is a liner problem and a common issue. Also have a knock (piston?).

For those who have done this job, what is the common price and time frame to repair?

Any special tools needed?

Thanks

Your probably looking at 1800.00 for the inframe kit,500-700 machine shop charge if you have the head redone, and around 1800-2200 labor. I don't use any special tools. You can use a wooden hammer to knock the sleeves out. will need ring/piston compressor.

Some pics of the in frame. My apprentice did most of the work, his first rebuild :)
He did a fine job.

Wow! Thanks for the update and taking the time to post the pics. What do you think caused that piston to scar up like that?

Seen that scoring alot when a liner oring fails, depends on how long engine runs how bad scoring gets, worst case seizes up... Cylinder with failed oring overheats due to lack of coolant around it.....

I concur.
This was our first DT466 liner failure. We have 12 more of the 2000-2004 vintage, one with nearly 13,000 hours. Probably won't be the last.....
