we are testing a new tracking system for our buses and one feature is it will tell u if bus is running or not and the tracking device uses an on off sensor so i cant use a tach signal to show its running i need something thats just on when its running and off when engine is off but also off when key is on any ideas

We just rely on the ignition hot, but if you want to know for sure if it is running, use an oil pressure switch. Hook up the ignition hot or ground to the switch, with oil pressure you can hook up the other side to your device.

They have oil pressure switch's that are switch's. They use them with electric fuel pumps in the old days. I don't have any part numbers right now, but if you look through a Standard ignition book you will find one.

I would look for the easiest place to put the switch. Use a blank main rifle, or look for a place you can run a tee into a main oil line. Oil sending unit ect...
