Hi all, new to this forum , sorry if this has been covered. i did a search but couldnt find anything. so here goes. One of our clients has a fleet of 2008 be200 buses, and came in complaining about black smoke. i drove the bus and it felt like a extreme miss fire between 2000-2500rpm, pulled codes, here they are:

INACTIVE FAULT CODES: 6
Engine #1 - HDS J1708
Fault Description: Brake Pedal Switch #2
FMI Description: Data Erratic, Intermittent, Or Incorrect
SID 247 FMI 2
Engine #1 - HDS J1708
Fault Description: Engine Coolant Temperature
FMI Description: Data Erratic, Intermittent, Or Incorrect
PID 110 FMI 2
Engine #1 - HDS J1708
Fault Description: Controller #1
FMI Description: Abnormal Frequency, Pulse Width, Or Period
SID 254 FMI 8
Engine #1 - HDS J1708
Fault Description: Exhaust Gas Re-Circulation (EGR) Valve Mechanism
FMI Description: Mechanical System Not Responding Properly
SID 146 FMI 7
Engine #1 - HDS J1708
Fault Description: Injector Cylinder #2
FMI Description: Data Valid But Above Normal Operational Range
SID 2 FMI 0
Engine #1 - HDS J1708
Fault Description: Injector Cylinder #4
FMI Description: Data Valid But Above Normal Operational Range
SID 4 FMI 0

removed the egr and cleaned it, went for a drive and the bus died halfway through, it spluttered and quit, had it towed to the shop, replaced the idm bottom half and it still wouldnt restart. also at thsis point i have no engine ecm communication, all fuses and relays are good, checked for hours and finally out of frustration i went back to it at 5 pm and it fired right up and been good ever since. any suggestions would be much appreciated
