Looking for advice on replacing C7 front crank seal. Book says to use a slide hammer to remove it, but has anyone done anything different? I've used screws threaded into the seal to push the seal out before on other engines, but not familiar with CAT. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I did one about 3 weeks ago. I just used a half inch wrench, place the open end between the crankshaft and the seal and levered it out. Sometimes it takes a couple of prying's in different location but should come pretty easy. Just about like removing the front seal out of an automatic transmission.
Side note: Look at the seal and make sure it hasn't spun in the timing cover housing and look real close at the balancer to make sure the rubber in between is in good shape and not broken.

Ok, so we bought the installer, and it only came with the sleeve to push the seal in. Is there more to the tool than that? Or do you smack it with hammer? I'm hoping there is more to it and we just need to get the other part of the tooling.

There should be a plate with two bolts to pull the seal into the timing cover

Thats what it looks like in the book, but CAT parts guy says otherwise. Do you happen to have a part number for that tool?

I got that part, but it does not come with the plate to push the driver in.

Is the plate that holds the pulley (balancer) in place large enough to push the tool?

I don't know yet, I don't have the bus in for the job yet. I will look into that though. Thanks for the suggestion.
