On a 2006 BB rear engine with a Cat C7, the retarder is inop. I don't have much experience with retarders so I don't even know where to start. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What kind of retarder is this? Is it a driveline retarder, transmission retarder, engine brake???

What brand? Frenelsa perhaps? Is it a contact box or does it have the solid state box?
