School started this week Monday, and on the first day there was already an incident on my ride in that required some evasive action. A sedan driver behind the school bus decided to go into the left-turn lane. The traffic light went green, and the traffic in the bus's lane started moving straight towards the school. Instead of turning left on the green arrow, the sedan driver turned sharply in front of the bus and stopped because pedestrians were blocking the crosswalk in the intersection. We had to brake and wait there so as not to ram the sedan that was basically parked perpendicular to the traffic flow.
If this driver wanted to go to the right instead of left, why didn't he simply wait behind the bus until we started moving, and why, once he saw that he was in the wrong lane and had an opportunity to go down to the next street and turn around, didn't he turn left and turn around instead of stopping in front of the bus?
This sort of thing has happened to me before, and in previous incidents the bus was moving at-speed when such drivers decided to swerve in front of the bus and stop. It's like they see a bus and they have to get out from behind it, even if that means going into the wrong lane and waiting there instead of waiting behind the bus.
