The stop arm on 2000 International Am tran quit coming out. The lights come on and flash. When I manually pull it out it Will go to the side of the bus on its own and can here the motor. If you touch the arm while its extended or push against it you here the motor and feel it.

Just wont come out. Any idea where to start looking??? And unfortunate I have to work outside with temps about 14 degrees..

Figured I would start here first.. Where its warm..

If it as a specialty 5 series there is a 5.5 series module that replaces the micro-switches and relays with a sealed module.

I also have drivers break the clutch drive by pulling on the sign.

The module cures a world of ills.

If it's anything like most of the IC CE units I've worked with, check the door switch to make sure the stop sign motor is getting the signal to deploy. Some times one of the 2 wires that control the signal fall off, or weren't on properly. Just a thought, and you can check it while the bus is running for heat!

Just a update it is Model #385156 SMS Electric Stop Arm.

The motor can be heard only when trying to push it manually while it is out. Or when it is off (closed and you try and move it outwards).

Thanks for the help.

Open it up and see if there are still micro switches.

If there are, put in the new control module.

And Earl is correct, the door switches tend to fall apart.

Try pulling it out when the reds are flashing and see if it goes back in when you shut the reds off... Here is a good video to go by... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqN2HfH6BSU
