had 1162 code pulled the MAT sensor it came apart looked toasted any idea what could cause this??

EGR cooler failure; really hot steam has been my #1 cause. Could indicate a current failure, or it may have happened on a previous failure and got missed. Usually when I see one of these I also have a plugged MAP right next to it.
