HI, I am working on an 1985 GMC b6000 bus with a 366 cu in 4 bbl carb. It is experiencing extreme loss of power on the highway going uphill. The vacuum gauge goes below 10hg. Would disconnecting the governor remedy this or what could be the issue?

The governor controls max rpm not horsepower. Do a basic tuneup first .Plug and wires and timing check.

Make sure the reduntant throttle return "mouse trap mechanism" hasn't been tripped, if it has, the gas pedal will be overly hard to push and you are basically down to a 2 bbl carb.

Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback

Sometimes a plugged exhaust can be the issue.
