Hi everyone,

We thought you might be interested to read this feature from our November 2012 issue on dealing with difficult students on the bus, and deescalating potentially violent situations.

Another wonderful study which while great in theory goes to heck in a hand basket when put into practice.

I know all my students names and use them morning and night. But, this is a bus environment and not a classroom.

Teachers have the ability to move around and interact with the students on a frequent basis.

For the most part drivers interact with the students merely when they board and disembark. Otherwise we're focused on "driving", and try to stay focused on that primary task. Doing otherwise is a certain formula for disaster.

If districts want more interaction and one on one attention to student actions while the bus is in motion then that requires a monitor onboard each and every bus, for the most part.
