Why use SD Cards rather than conventional harddrives

Hi- tradition mobile video surveillance DVRs have a harddrive...this is basically like a disk that spins around and the video data is recorded onto it. The problem with hard-drives is that because they are moving they are prone to breaking or missing data. Especially on a moving bus. SD Cards are the standard in digital cameras, digital video recorders we all have at home. They are more reliable, a lot smaller, compact and easy to use.
