i work in northern B.C. Canada,we run school buses for manhauls in mines and to oilfield sites.my district manager told me today we are now going to run 10w30 in our engines all year around now.we run mostly ce buses btw with some mci coaches.i am not a big fan of this with the pressures the oil is subjected to with hydraulically actuated injectors.in the cold winter months i can see it since we cannot house all our buses, but not in summer time when we are just as busy as winter. LET THE DEBATE BEGIN!

I would suggest 5w 40 synthetic. Best of both worlds and made for diesel engines. 10w 30 is not made for diesel and you will have trouble, it's just a matter of time.

Its not that hard to find 10W-30 diesel rated oil, Motorcraft and Shell Rotella are available in that viscosity.

International only approves 10W-30 up to 90 degrees F ambient temperature, Cummins to about 110 F

Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback

See if this link works for you all - it's a graphic from Cummins showing oil viscosity recommendations by ambient temperature. Shows 10W30 only good to -20C (-5F), 5W30 to -25C (-15F), and 0W30 for -40C/F and lower. Heat-wise, 10W and 5W are shown good to 20C (70F) in winter service and 0W only good to 0C (32F). Not sure there is a good year-round oil for you all - should probably change viscosity summer to winter.

I stand corrected. I did not know there was a 10w 30 diesel oil.

Have you considered 5W40 Delvac 1?

We use Mobil Delvac 1300 10W30 in any diesel vehicle parked outside through the winter here in Maine. All others get 15W40. Some districts run 10W30 year 'round as it doesn't get over 90F much here.

As cold as it gets where you are, a 5W40 synthetic would make more sense.

If it doesn't fit, FORCE it.
If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway.

We are in central Alberta. We have been running 0-40 full synthetic for about 5 years. Engines are 3126/C7 Cats and Maxforce DT in a fleet of 60 buses.
