QUESTION OF THE MONTH: (Haven't done one of these in a while, figured it would be cool to start it up again.)

Hybrid buses are starting to become a popular trend across districts in the United States. In-fact, (locally) Kentucky has one of the largest fleets of hybrid buses in the United States. What is your opinion of the hybrid options for buses available on the market? Do you have experience with these units? In fact, do we even have any drivers on here that drive a hybrid on route? Share your opinions.

None of the hybrid buses pay for their initial upfront investment over the life of the bus.

Plus, how are batteries going to be paid for when they need to replaced down the road?

Waste of tax dollars.

I love the idea of hybrid buses. Personally, I am more preferable to the energy depleting ones, that use up their charge and you plug them in, rather than the ones that recharge as they go. What I wonder is with such a large roof surface, why don't they install solar panels? It would slowly charge (but wouldn't keep up) as you drive, and you park on a sunny day, and it charges up.
And dynamic/regenerative braking is a cool idea.

We can't all be conventional!

Good idea Matt.
