What caues's oile's to break off?(2000 int dt444e, Was changing oil pan gasket and found two oiler's in pan .What causes this? or what else is going to happen next?YES They are the piston coolers.tHE BOLTS WERE NOT BROKEN. This unit came in the shop with a leaking oil pan. When we took the pan off we found these in the bottom. There are no marks on the piston skirts. or cyl. walls but the oilers them self's have marks on them.We replaced all of the oiler and bolts. The bus is back on the road.

do you mean piston coolers? without them you will have an engine failure soon. they are there to keep the crown cool. are they broken or did the bolt fall out also.

its like a slinky! useless but fun to watch.
