Yeah I drove for UConn Transportation for 2 years. Some of the best days of my life. I'd take driving for UConn over school bus driving any day. They have some awesome buses. Their fleet consists of mainly Gillig Phantoms (11 total... 2 are low floor), 3 Thomas Freightliner shorties, and 4 Amtran RE's. Everything is speced out very nicely. Just about every option you can imagine, these buses have. The Amtrans have the DT466, air brake, air horn, Bostrom air ride seat, air ride suspension, AM/FM/CD/PA, tinted windows, and air conditioning. The Freightliners have the 5.9 Cummins, air brake, air ride rear, air ride driver's seat, AM/FM/Cassette/PA, tinted windows, and air conditioning. The Gilligs were my favorite to drive. They have 8 35' Gilligs and 3 30' Gilligs. Training is done on the 30' Gilligs. The 35' Gilligs have nice Recaro air ride seats with air lumbar support that I absolutely loved. Then there's good old 742, the spare bus, a 1992 Thomas Cityliner with the Cummins L-10 which is an awesome sounding engine.
Here's one of the new low floor Gilligs:

Here's one of the standard floor 1998 35 foot Gilligs:

Here's one of the Amtran RE's when it was brand new in 2002:

Any other questions, feel free to ask. |
