I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IF A FULL RACE BUILT AND TUNNED CUMMINS 5.9 WILL MAKE THAT "DRAG RACE STREET SCHOOL BUS" RUN FASTER.
BUT THE ORIGINAL INTERNATIONAL DT360 ENGINE, HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A DETROIT DIESEL 6V92 V6 ENGINE WITH A HUGE TURBOCHARGER.
THINK IT IS KINDA ODD TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL ENGINE WITH SOMETHING MORE OLDER AND OUT-TECH. BUT THEY DO LOVE THOSE OLD DETROIT DIESEL OIL SPITTERS BECAUSE THEY CAN REV HIGHER AND MAKE A LOT OF NOISE.
ON THE TRACTOR PULLING LEAGUE THERE IS AMACHINA NAMED DOUBLE TAKE (I THINK SO) WICH IS A UNLIMITED MODIFIED TRACTOR POWERED BY 2 INTERNATIONAL DT466 INDUSTRIAL ENGINES MAKING ABOUT 3,000 HP EACH ONE..
That 6v92 is way more powerful than a DTA360 By twice and has more torque. Can you emagine a DTA360 pushing an Eagle down the road at 70 plus MPH? a 6V92 TA can. For a tiny bus like that it will last a long time and really push that bus like it was a toy. Don't knock those "spitters" Leaktroits screamen demons or what ever folks call them. They are way better than most people give them credit for!! now that bus has power!!
I've never seen a 6V92TA making 1200HP at the wheels...I HAVE seen a 5.9 Cummins making 1200+HP (had more, the dyno was pegged) at the wheels. On a daily-driven truck. They can top 2000HP in tractor-pullers.

The DETROIT DIESEL 2 CYCLE BIG BORE ENGINE cycle in motorsports will stay, but the arise of more powerfull DIESEL ENGINES will put the DETROIT DIESEL "oil spitters" out.
The CUMMINS 5.9 engines are some strong performers.
The MACK E9 V8 is another BIG V8 DIESEL engine very strong and they can reach up to 5,000 HP!!!! MACK E9 V8 are the most powerfull force in the MODIFIED SEMI CLASS at Pulling Events.
Wonder If I can fit a MACK engine in a 1976 FORD B700 /WAYNE!!!!
