One of our new ICs has the yellow triangle engine warning lamp coming on every morning and night. There are no default codes being set. The dealer has reprogrammed the ESC. That worked for one day and then the light is back on - still no default codes. Anybody else having this problem? Any ideas on what it might be?

the yellow triangle is the warn engine light. new universal symbol. any other lights at the same time? if not have the driver leave it running after it happens and check codes before the key is cycled. my guess would be low coolant warning

its like a slinky! useless but fun to watch.

We have 10 2008 IC CE w/Maxxforce DT and several of these units have experienced this problem from time to time and we still don't know what it is. The only symptom has been the light.

Normaly when the triangle is on there should be a message on the screen.

The bus is a 2009 CE300 with a maxforce DT engine. We have left the engine running when the light is on and still no codes show. We have put the restrictor valves in the coolant lines to the surge tank - still no change. Also there seems to be a subtle engine flutter under acceleration when the light is on.

The YELLOW TRIANGLE is NOT a "Check Engine" or "Engine Warning" light! It's a universal warning that is ONLY there to get the operator's attention.

Any time the Yellow Triangle is illuminated, there IS A MESSAGE in the LCD portion of the instrument cluster. The ONLY way to know why the Yellow Triangle is illuminated is to READ the message in the LCD display.

If you want customer service, you NEED an International!

typical text if engine related will be "warn engine". twist it how you like it replaced the warn engine yellow light. yes it will also warn of other systems. here is the listing from the op manual.
Amber Warning
Illuminates Yellow in
conjunction with other
Warning Lights.
Also illuminates Yellow by
Cummins or Caterpillar
engine fault, an Electrical
# 1 fault, or a transmission
fault. These are identified
by their General Text and
Warning Messages.

its like a slinky! useless but fun to watch.

Frank here is a list of the common warnings from the op manual. hope it helps. (far right colum shows when the amber warning will be on)
i believe in the most current programing(low coolant added)it will also turn on the amber warning. im not 100%

below are the only other listings for turning on the amber other then above.
Global Message is displayed when a module other than the engine requests the amber warning lamp.

TCM Shift Selector
ABS, EGC, Compass Module,BC, VSM,SD, AGSP, Exhaust Module
Telematics, TPMS/PCM

its like a slinky! useless but fun to watch.

IC warning light update. After several weeks of our new IC setting off the amber warning triangle and displaying engine warning in the LED window with no codes being set, even with checking before the key was recylcled we finally got a code to show up. The code was 8006. The dealer repaced #6 injector. This did not fix the problem. Finnaly after a new wiring harness and new LED dash everything seems to working fine. Hope it lasts.

You need to check the codes. On MaxxforceDT, we have had problems with the feeds to the ECM/IDM, most commonly the relays....we have had problems with the IPR...and most commonly the connector at the IPR for which there is an improved part...and one shut down due to an EGR valve. Fortunately, nothing to the extent of the VT's!!!! The first thing to do is get a computer on it and see what you have.
