I came across a 95 Genisis with a DT 466 with a 110,000 miles . The people want $2500 for it . The only problem they say is it needs a torque converter . The engine is 190 horse so I am guessing it's a AT 545 . Is it worth the risk and cost to get it ? I want to use it as a School bus for my dist.

I'd attempt to verify that the instrument cluster hasn't been replaced...that mileage seems low.

We had a lot of genesis units around here, they kept both the 93s and 95s until after the 05-06 school year, so the 93s were 13 years old. They all ran pretty well, most were DT466, except the 93s which had DT360s. There were a few with problems, but considering we had about 120+ units, they did well. However, they are loud when driving. Also, as a side note, the 93s would occasionally (rare) have the control panel (left side) short out and go up in smoke, but that only happened a few times over the years, and I don't think it affected the 95s.

First Student Guy, what years where yours, and what engine did they have?

The mechanical 466 in a 95 should do well with the cold, ours didn't have block heaters, but they always started. The 466E, being electronic and HEUI, may have more trouble.

A genisis of that year shouln't give you many problems. If you can get ahold of the maitenence records, that would be great. Look carfully ovr the records especialy when it come to the trans. A good mech would change the fluid every 15k on a 545. Also as Thomasbus24 said, check for insturment panel replacment/odometer replacement. Hell, Ive even heard of poeple going inside and magic markering numbers on the odomitor.

Do the world a favor and bring back GMC and Ford conventional chassis......

Genesis' are good buses. We had 2 '93s with the DT360 and they were still running strong when they were retired last month. One of the drivers turned down a new bus last school year because his '93 Genesis hardly had anything wrong with it.

We have several of the last Genesis units made in 1999. These are DT-466E and MT-643 transmissions and they are very reliable units. Other than the heavier trans and the electronic engine they are similar units. Could be a good one!

We have a large number of Genesis in our fleet, 93, 96, 97, 98, and 99. They always start in the winter and have held up well over the years without any major problems. The only problems we have had with a lot of them is the plywood rotting and having to replace the floor.

Yes, around here I have seen the step wells rot out and need repair as well.
