| Just curious...was the ill-fated GM 5.7 Diesel (also known as the 350 diesel)from the late 70s-early 80s ever offered in a school bus application? |

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it....those "dieselized" gas engines didn't even hold up in cars! A buddy of mine had one in an Olds, and when the last warranty motor blew up, he dropped a gas engine in it. That was kind of cool too...because the VIN number told the DMV computers that it was a diesel, so he never had to get an emissions test on that car (diesels are exempt from emissions in Va).
Speaking of GM engineering disasters of that era....remember Cadillac's 8-6-4 gas motor? It was supposed to cut out cylinders for better mileage. PURE Garbage! LOL |

Ive never seen one in a bus. A guy I use to work with as a 84 Olds with that engine. Believe it or not it has over 150,000 miles on it and can still squeel the tires from a stop. The car is all roted out but thats probably the only 5.7 diesel that will out last the life of the car. |

What prompted me to ask this question was the fact that this engine was offered in the GM full-size pickups.
What is interesting is that the 8-6-4 engine is back with us in Chrysler and, I believe, new GM V8s. Supposedly it has become more reliable with advances in tehnology. |

No. It was only used in the pickups, and not even in the full size K Blazer that was the precursor to the Tahoe, and the Suburban.
It was also used in the Pontiac Bonneville in the 80s |

| It was used in just about every full sized GM car. |
