I could use a little help from someone who's aware of where to look first. I've got a 96 Bluebird with 4 window exits and one roof hatch. Going down the road yesterday the buzzer went off--I yelled at the kids to push down on the handles--it was still going. I stopped, went around and checked all the windows and the hatch. No luck, it kept on buzzing. Twice it did stop, but started up and stayed buzzing until I parked it.
I know I've either got a bad switch or a short someplace, so where should I check first? Any ideas? |

| This happened to us. Base called over the radio and told me that it showed up on their computer, and that I needed to pull over. The roadman came and cut the wire, and then repaired it that evening in the lot. So, unfortunately, I can't help you! |

| The rear door switch is possibly out of adjustment and when the bus rocks the door will twist in the frame and let the rear door switch move far enough to activate the buzzer. We adjusted all of ours out as far as they would go and the door would still shut. Look thru your door switches to find one with a longer plunger, if I remember we used a thomas switch to fix one. You may also have to replace the screws holding the box to the frame as they can come loose and lose ground. |

I found it. It was what I feared the most--- a bad connector in the wiring panel above the LAST one of the four window exits I checked. Why is it always the last one you check?

| We have these things called "boards" on our bus. It uses GPS and is tied into the monitoring system. Whenever we have an accident, or need help, they know exactly where we are. They can check in at any time and see how fast we're going. So when the emergency buzzers go off, they get notice of it, and if the problem isn't corrected or reported to them within 5 minutes or so, they will make contact with you. |

| It does sound very pricey and could be very very pricey depending on number of busses I guess. I can't see us (public school garage) springing for the system-- we still need some radios. Very interesting though. |

| Same thing happened here with a 97 Crown. The buzzers went off, the driver told the kids to stop messing with the handles, and they said they weren't. We pulled the bus over and checked everything, yet the thing's still going off. Shortly after the driver called in to base and they had someone with an empty bus in the area. So we switched buses and continued on. Turns out we got our regular bus back in the morning. |

That sounds pretty neat. Even the GPS so they can locate you in case the bus is lost or disabled, etc. Some of our buses have GPS too, they are testing it out.
I wonder why the bus makers don't put monitors on the bus to show what door/window is causing the alarm?
Chevybb, my bus was doing the same thing, I'm not sure how to fix it, I brought it to the mechanics and they fixed it. I checked every window, roof hatch, and door and it still did it. |

We all say it, but think about it. I *had* to recently while talking with tech support, the fellow was French but we could understand one another quite well, it was just the term "the buzzer went off" :) meaning it sounded right you could hear the buzzer.
Well after sitting and thinking for a minute, wondering why we were not getting any where, the tech support dude just kept saying that is what should happen. He was thinking the term "buzzer went *off*" meant the buzzer *stopped* sounding. :)
I have since changed, and now say the horn sounded, the buzzer sounded.......:) |

Doran makes an emergency exit monitor that is available, it's similar to the ELMO.
As far as I know they only offer one model and emergency exit setups vary from state to state, school district to school district, and contractor to contractor. |

| Just a small bit of information on window alarms.I service around 20 bluebird school buses and have found the following.The latch handles are fastened to window frame with aluminum rivets and after all the vibration these buses deal with (country routes)the rivets wear.you have to replace them with steel bolts to provide good ground. |

| I would look at the roof hatch switch it has two wires that plug onto two terminals. One of the wires tends to come off with continued use of the vent going up and down. This lead then makes contact with the other lead causing the buzzer to sound off. |

I either missed this back in the day or I wasn't a member. lol Anyway, I've had the same trouble with the ground on the e-windows. I just put new rivets in. Time will tell, I guess, how long they'll keep working. It's interesting to me how well the older window latches worked and they moved away from them. For that matter, the dam latches that keep the windows up worked better 20 years ago than they do now!! |
