I thought it would be really interesting if all the drivers and riders give DETAILED spec of the bus they ride or drive. Not the bus they wish they had (I'm going to start another post for that). Also, explain why you like or dislike that spec. Every member should post for this.
Mine:
1998 Thomas Vista 3600 Internatinal T444 Allsion AT545 66 passenger West coast style mirrors Bus Boy Crossovers VA Instrument Panel Specs (Warning Light Switch on the right) 2 Emergency Roof Hatches 2 Emergency Windows (One per side of bus) Black Drivers seat Gray interior Air Brakes Air Door 2 Panels of Echo Supression ceiling panels closest to driver Worst Suspension (in my opinion)(don't even know what kind it is to be honest)(could possibly be non-existent)
NO... I DO NOT LIKE MY BUS RIGHT NOW.... IT'S LOUD, HORRIBLE PERFORMER, SHAKE YOU TO DEATH, UNRELIABLE, LOUD, WORST DRIVING BUS, LOUD, OH YEAH, AND DID I MENTION IT HAD THE WORST TRANSMISSION EVER AND WAS LOUD. |

2002 Thomas Built Bus 83 Pax, Air brakes, air door, tinted windows, normal transmission, caterpillar, two fans, cup holder built in my engine cover, front engine Thomas Ef, am/fm radio, over ride red button, and it rides nicely. 16 ext. light monitor. and flap out doors.
It can out-do any bus on this website! She's a hot ticket. Even though my old Amtran RE kicks X |

Normally, I wouldn't be able to reply to this topic since, as an office staff worker, I am usually just a substitute driver. But we are so short of drivers for summer school that (lucky for me!) all the office staff members had the option of being assigned to summer school routes. So here are the specs for the bus I am assigned to this summer:
(Note: These are the standard specs for all new buses purchased by my district. Expect to see photos of this bus soon on my website)
- 2006 IC Conventional - 77 passenger - DT466E engine - Air Brakes - Air-Ride suspension - Air door - High headroom - Full-length accoustical ceiling - 2 Tran-Spec roof hatches - 8 emergency exit windows (4 on each side) - LED brake lights & turn signals - Tinted windows - RAC air conditioning system (4 air conditioners: 1 large unit in the back, 1 large unit in the front, 1 small unit in the middle, plus driver's air in the dashboard with separate controls) - Cloth-covered drivers air seat - Grey interior / Grey seats - Seon digital video surveilance system (3 cameras: 1 in the front looking back, 1 in the front looking at driver / stepwell, and 1 in the middle looking at the back) - Remote-control double-nickel mirrors - 10"x30" interior mirror - PA system - Motorola MCS5000 two-way radio
I've been driving this bus for several weeks now, and I love it. Lots of power, great turning radius, and a very smooth ride. Everything in the driver's area is laid out well and it is comfortable to drive. The air conditioner will freeze you even when it's been over 100 degrees outside. All in all a great bus... which is quite a complement coming from me, since I have always had a strong preference for driving transit-style buses rather than conventionals. I know there's been a lot of bad-mouthing of ICs in the forums recently, but I'd challenge anyone to go out and drive this bus and then try to say they don't like it!

1997 Blue Bird TC2000 FE 5.9L Cummins 72 pax Auto 4speed (type I dunno) air door (opens out) safety brake system (applies brakes automatically when door is open with reds flashing) air seat air brakes strobe white roof 2 roof hatches 4 Emerg windows (2 each side) AM/FM/PA 6 speakers brown seats black floor tan ceiling No child left behind system Motorolla 2 way-radio 60 gallon diesel tank Ultra-low sulfur emissions system (I love this my bus doesn't smoke at all anymore) Intermittant wipers
When we bought this bus is was spec for tinted windows, but we didn't get them. If I could do anything to the bus, I would tint the windows and repaint it. |
Winners are losers who got up and gave it just one more try |

Berry has several but the International is the far superior and most used so I will list its specs.
1984 International S1800 Bluebird 9.0L/551 CI naturally aspirated diesel engine GVWR: 25,500 lbs Spoked black wheels Painted Blue and White Outward opening doors Air brakes and autmatic transmission (not sure which one) Blue seats, black vinyl floor, tan color roof It's a 65 passenger with only a rear emergency exit. Standard convex and flat mirrors on either side, 4 large convex crossview mirrors have been added to the hood Air stop sign and crossing gate (although crossing gate is mostly broken off), Stop sign has LED lights on it. I got no idea what the tire sizes are. Not many other options on a bus this old. |

Here is a picture of my "second" bus that I would use when my "real" bus wasn't available. It's a BlueBird RE (The pic isn't that great, it's a cell phone picture.) I notice that for some reason the BBirds go better up hills than the AmTrans? The picture was taken by my friend while I was @ a charter, the bus is parked @ a shopping plaza. All the kids who ride it, love the bus, I've noticed that they like that bus more than they like the Thomas C2. The bus is an RE from BlueBird, has 2 stop signs, jackknife door, runs really nice, am/fm radio, 70 pax, a regular engine and regular trans, wigwag, and whatever else comes with the blue birds quote: .

I just had the picture of the bus up but I keep having problems with it freezing my computer, I think it's because it was from a cell phone, I'm not sure.
I am going to keep myself out of trouble and say I have no idea what kind of engine or transmission it had, that's why I said regular engine and transmission. I'm not even going to guess, because if I were going to guess, I would say Dt444E with a Allison TR., but I have a feeling that's wrong because the bus is a 2001 and the Dt444E's were discontinued. So a regular engine means it just had an engine to get me to where I had to go, same with the trans. As long as it starts and moves then I know there's an engine and trans. I just know whatever engine is in it has a lot of power. So it must be a caterpillar |

I just removed the picture of the bus because it came out looking like a ghost on wheels! I did make a mistake, 1 time in a million, not bad, in my engine talk!
T444E, DT466, Caterpillar, and Cummins (I know I'm good but you don't have to clap)
i made a mistake when i typed it - What kind of engine do you think is in the Bluebird?? Any ideas?

All our Bluebird RE's have the Cummins ISB 5.9L engines... I think Cat engines may be available in Blue Birds also but I'm not sure. Definately not an International engine. |

2005 Thomas C2 79 pas. MBE 900 Engine 100 Gallon Fuel tank Cruise Control Tinted windows Air Brakes Air door Air Seat White roof 2 roof hatches 6 emergency windows(3 on each side) Strobe light Strobing stop arms(2 stop arms) Crossing arm Blue seats Black floor Black window posts 3 Carrier A/C units Push button tranny High head room Acoustical ceiling panels Yellow rims Am/Fm/Cassete Player w/th 8 speakers Auto-Pre Trip Child Check(sys) Digital Camera w/th 4 different veiws, and event button **I think this overall is a great bus! I only have about 1-2 dislikes the bus has several blind-spots. Also the seat-belt on the bus its real real tricky, u have to pull it a certain way to get it to go across you. But, it's a great bus with the exception of these factors.. I give Thomas maybe 1-2 more models, getting all the kinks worked out then they will be a pro, and we will have an excellent bus on our hands. |

You want details huh? Okay...here is the last bus I was assigned:
Chassis: One of three S 1800's Ordered July of 1986 from London Truck & Tractor(no longer in business) London, Ohio. Built at Navistar-International Springfield, Ohio on October 30, 1986. DT466 Diesel--210 HP w/ block heater Allison MD643 Tranny Racor Fuel/water seperator Air Brakes 9000# front axle w/ spring suspension 20,000# Dana rear axle w/ springs 10R20 Tube Type Tires on Dayton Rims Optional gauges--tach, hourmeter, ammeter Factory installed ether injection system 60 gallon fuel tank, right front side Interesting Notes: Unlike it's 'sisters' and all other s-series buses in our fleet, this bus did not have the proper hood featuring the DT466 hood ornament. International had just recently switched from International-Harvester...the only place you could find the IH logo in this bus was on the engine block and air cleaner...all other locations were the Navistar logo. The district switched to tubeless tires in 1984, but these three accidentally came with tubes.
Body: Ordered July of 1986 from Ace Truck Body in Columbus, Ohio. Carpenter Body Works completed them on December 2, 1986. 65 passenger High headroom Baader Brown 7" stop/tail lights, turn signals and warning lights. Grote marker and 4" backing lights. Stimsonite 4" stop/tail lights---could never find replacements Weldon interior lights. Aeroflash 8-light flasher system. Areoflash 16-light light monitor. Tan interior Elk Brown Seats, 39" DOT Black Floor Panasonic AM/FM/PA--slide tune...NOT digital Heater Booster Pump Outward Opening Manual doors--rare for Carpenters of this era Interesting Notes: *First year on the road, bus backed into tree resulting in replaced left rear panel and window. *Year 2 or 3, driver complains of horrible squeaking and banging sounds, rust begins to streak from the window pillars, finally noted roof MOVEMENT on bumpy roads! Failure of EVERY roof weld on the right side and some on left. Carpenter didn't care. Rewelded in-house and inspected frequenly thereafter...just fine! Other 2 buses had minor weld failures fixed in house. *1998-bus is heavly damaged in rear-end collision. Frame is straightened in Columbus, axle realigned there and sent to Thomas dealer in Langsville who repaired the body. New bumper, rubrails, side and rear panels. Straightened warped floor. Bus should have been totalled. *late 80's---strobe light installed *Late 80's---new windsheild *early 90's---Weldon 7000 flasher installed, replaced again in 2004 *2002---transmission rebuilt *2004---all new seat covers, Thomas Green, due to heavy vanadlism *2004---new style Turn signal switch *2004---all new Weldon Warning lights *2004---Doran light monitor from 1985 Blue Bird installed *2006---End of life |
