Aurora police chief says driver failed sobriety test

Nammi Bhagvandoss / Joplin Globe, AURORA, MO -- A 55-year-old substitute bus driver for the Aurora R-8 School District faces 10 counts of first-degree child endangerment.

According to one parent, when the children arrived home they complained about Adams driving erratically, while speeding down back roads and that Adams 'smelled of alcohol.'

A 17-year-old girl made all the remaining six children get off the bus at her stop, Batson said. The girl's family took the remaining children home.

Aurora police Chief Rick Batson said that after receiving the parent's phone call, two Aurora police officers waited for Adams to return to the bus barn. Batson said Adams failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. The prosecutor's office said additional charges could be filed against Adams.

What a bozo this turkey is. Sorry, but I don't want to hear about this guy having a disease, blah blah blah. He should be fired outright, or at the least lose his school bus driver's certification for no less than three years.

I'm very impressed with the 17-year-old girl that made the call to get all the remaining six children off the bus at her stop. Very well done. I'm bothered that police failed to intercept that bus and arrest the bus driver on the spot. A drunk behind the wheel of a school bus would seem an immense safety hazard and liability on the road, a crash waiting to happen. (jk)
