School law attorney Peggy Burns has updated her “Sharing Student Health and Medical Information with School Transporters” report for the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS).

Burns authored the first edition of the NASDPTS information report in 2003. According to the association, it was the first to give specific guidance on the need for disclosing student health and medical information to authorized pupil transportation personnel, including school bus drivers.

The updated report includes expanded information and incorporates a number of changes that have taken place since the original publication, such as federal agencies’ recognition of the topic and changes in federal regulations.

The new version of the report is available on the NASDPTS website.

Burns will also give a presentation on legal issues at the NASDPTS conference in Kansas City, Missouri, next week.
