VICTORVILLE, Calif. — Suspects stole 32 batteries from Victor Elementary School District buses, delaying or canceling some bus service for approximately 50 special-needs students the morning of Oct. 27, Daily Press reports.

The batteries were stolen from 16 buses, mostly the district’s smaller, special-needs buses, Don Lester, safety, operations and transportation director for the district, told the newspaper. He added the buses were all operational for afternoon routes that day, but the theft cost the district approximately $3,500 and each battery is valued at about $110.

Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the district’s bus yard around 12:43 a.m. on the morning the incident occurred, according to the newspaper. Due to the fence surrounding the bus yard, deputies were not able to enter, but authorities said the area appeared secure.

Last week’s incident marks the third time batteries have been stolen from the district’s bus yard in the last 60 days, Lester told Daily Press.
