ALBANY, N.Y. — Pupil transporters in Middletown, N.Y., Roxboro, N.C., and Manassas, Va., have successfully completed the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) Special Needs Transportation (SNT) Training Program.

Daniel Higbie, an employee of Mid City Transit Corp. in Middletown, is the fifth person in the U.S. to achieve this recognition, while Carol Bowes of Person County Schools in Roxboro and Josielyn Rainey of Prince William County Public Schools in Manassas are the sixth and seventh, respectively.

(As SBF previously reported, NAPT President Dr. Linda Bluth, who works for the Maryland State Department of Education, was the fourth person to complete the program.)

The NAPT SNT Training Program provides numerous opportunities for transportation personnel serving students with disabilities to access educational opportunities at both local and national conferences, and to gain national recognition for their efforts.

The program has a core curriculum that consists of 24 hours of education in a variety of settings, including a school bus roadeo and a trade show of school transportation products and services.

The core curriculum is supplemented by eight hours of elective instruction from the NAPT Professional Development Series Program. The syllabus for the core curriculum has been specifically designed to increase an individual’s specific knowledge about transporting students with disabilities, according to NAPT.
