CARROLLTON, Texas — Two employees at Dallas County Schools were suspended after an incident in which a boy in a wheelchair fell from a school bus and was injured, The Dallas Morning News reports.
On Sept. 16, the bus monitor was wheeling the boy onto a mechanical lift operated by the bus driver when both adults were distracted by another child running away from the bus, according to district officials. The wheelchair tipped over as it hit the lift, causing the boy to fall 2-and-a-half feet and cut his lip and cheek on the ground. He was treated for his injuries and returned to school the next day. The bus driver and monitor were suspended for two days and were to receive "extensive retraining," according to district officials.
