BUTLER COUNTY, Ky. — On Monday afternoon, a school bus here struck and killed a 5-year-old boy as it was pulling away from the bus stop, state police told WBKO.

Jayden Hawkins, a kindergartner at Butler County Schools, had just gotten off the bus, which stopped near his grandmother’s house, Kentucky State Police told the news source. Police have not released any other details about the incident at this time, according to WBKO.

The bus driver has been employed by Butler County Schools for nearly 18 years and has an exemplary driving record with the district, according to a statement released by Butler County Schools.

All of the students aboard the bus were taken to a nearby church to be picked up by their parents, and the school bus is being examined as part of the investigation, WBKO reports.
