FREMONT, N.Y. — A girl was dragged nearly half a mile when her book bag got caught in a school bus door on Tuesday, police said.

According to the New York State Police, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. as the Avoca Central School District student was getting off of the bus.

The student got hung up on the bus door by her book bag, police said, and it is believed that she was dragged about four-tenths of a mile before the bus driver realized that she was caught.

The girl sustained minor injuries to her foot. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and was released the same day.

The incident is still under investigation, police said on Thursday.
