HARRISON COUNTY, Ky. — When a tornado hit here last week, Harrison County Schools bus drivers were able to pull over and safely take students inside nearby buildings, include a store, a post office and homes, WKYT reports.

Bus drivers throughout the county were responsible for finding shelter for the children on their buses once a tornado warning went into effect.  The district's media specialist told the news outlet the district had 38 buses on the road, many of which were driving through the tornado warning area. When the school day ended at 3:10 p.m., school officials didn’t know how bad things would get over the next hour, according to WKYT.

One of the homes that a bus stopped at belonged to the school board's secretary. School officials told the news outlet that her son was home to let the kids inside.
