FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. — A teenager waiting for a school bus was killed by an out-of-control vehicle here on Friday morning, authorities said.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2006 Toyota Scion tC was traveling too fast for conditions, and the driver lost control. The vehicle veered off of the right side of the roadway, struck 15-year-old Donald Tipton, struck a mailbox and then overturned.

Tipton was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Scion, 23-year-old Ethan Humphries, sustained serious injuries. A passenger in his car was moderately injured. Both were taken to hospitals.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Humphries was placed under arrest in the hospital and charged with second-degree felony assault, driving while intoxicated and involuntary manslaughter.
