LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Orlando Sentinel reports that Lake County Schools officials will reinstate bus service for students who live within 2 miles of their schools with payment of a $1 or $2 fee.

As SBF previously reported, hundreds of children were no longer able to ride the bus when the district discontinued courtesy busing for those who live within 2 miles of campus.

Meanwhile, a Lake County Schools announcement said that the school board approved a measure at its meeting on Monday to restore free bus service for about 360 students in the 2-mile zones who walk to school and must cross a six-lane roadway or a roadway with a posted speed limit of greater than 55 mph. The decision will affect nine schools. Transportation services will be available on Sept. 16.
