WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. — LEX 18 reports that lightning struck a tree near a school bus with several children on board here last week.

The strike was close enough for students to report having seen “reddish-purple lights” and having heard an explosion.

John Halsey, director of transportation, Wolfe County Schools, told the news outlet that after the lightning bolt hit the tree and ricocheted, glass from the windows flew across the bus.

The tree and bus were damaged by the lightning, but no one was injured.
