CALCASIEU PARISH, La. — The Calcasieu Parish School Board is working to improve the district’s bus safety policy after a student went missing after disembarking his bus, KPLC reports.
In last Monday’s incident, the 6-year-old boy got off at the wrong bus stop. He was later found during a large-scale search by the Calcasieu Parish School Board, the district’s transportation department staff and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.
Superintendent Wayne Savoy told the news source that the school board is refining the system that the district is using. Children will have tags on their backpacks to ensure that they’re bus riders, and students who don’t ride buses will also have tags on their backpacks to indicate that they have another means of getting to and from school.
