RICHMOND, Va. — Authorities said that six students who allegedly attacked a school bus driver face felony aggravated assault and assault by mob charges, NBC News reports.
Richmond City school administrators told the news source that the group of students attacked the driver on the way to a middle school, leaving him with serious face and head injuries. A seventh student was suspended in connection with the incident.
The mother of one of the alleged attackers told a local Richmond news station that the incident began when students on the bus threw crayons at the driver. She claimed that the driver became agitated and started hitting her son, which triggered the assault, but police have not specified a motive for the attack.
