HOUSTON — Houston Independent School District (HISD) has equipped its school buses with exterior surveillance cameras from Safety Vision.

The district outfitted over 400 school buses with three exterior cameras over the summer, and plans to retrofit the remaining buses by the beginning of the 2013 school year.

“The HISD transportation department has worked diligently this summer to increase student safety on our school buses,” Senior Manager of Fleet Operations Mark Swackhamer said. “Student and employee safety is our highest priority, and the addition of Safety Vision SV-835 and SV-690 exterior cameras will help us achieve our goals to have the most protected, reliable fleet possible.”

Bruce Smith, president and CEO of Safety Vision, added that the exterior cameras will provide an increased level of surveillance coverage to aid in identifying and rectifying any problematic events that may occur.

“We’re thrilled to help HISD accomplish their school bus mobile video goals,” Smith said. “Both Safety Vision and HISD strive to achieve the highest level of pupil transportation security possible, and we’ve proven to be a great team over our established 10-year relationship.”

Safety Vision’s RoadRecorder 6000 PRO mobile digital video recorder and four SV-830 dome interior cameras are currently outfitted on every vehicle in HISD’s fleet to monitor the interior, entrance door and front driver views of the buses.
