COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Twenty-five Lewis Central Community Schools students were stranded in a school bus here earlier this week after the area experienced more than 4 inches of rain in three hours.

KETV reports that the bus stalled after the driver drove through water that was deeper than it seemed.

National Guard troops rescued the students, taking them to drier ground.

District officials told KETV it's unclear whether any action will be taken against the bus driver.

"We haven't had an opportunity yet to talk to the bus driver, so we'll cross that bridge when it comes," Superintendent Mark Schweer told the news source.
