RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County Public School System bus driver was fired Tuesday after he was charged with causing an accident that damaged several vehicles.

Lamount A. Lynch, 21, was charged with careless and reckless driving, The News & Observer reports. He was traveling 55 mph in a 35 mph zone while on his way to pick up students last Thursday.

According to the police report, Lynch sideswiped three stopped vehicles in the center turn lane of the road that he was traveling on and then crossed into the center lane and hit a stopped vehicle that was heading in the opposite direction. The vehicle he hit was pushed into another vehicle and a tree. Another vehicle was reportedly damaged by debris.

No students were on the bus at the time of the accident.

Lynch was removed from bus duty after the accident, Wake County Public School System spokesman Greg Thomas told The News & Observer. Lynch was then fired on Tuesday.
