Teens charged in incident involving stolen bus

MAPLEWOOD, N.J. — Police who responded to two separate incidents on April 17 discovered that the calls were related, and one involved a stolen school bus.

When officers responded to an activated alarm at a service station on Sunday morning, they found the front door open and located a 14-year-old boy hiding in the parking lot, Maplewood Patch reports.

At the same time, a female witness called to report a suspicious school bus parked on a street with two boys standing near the door. Officers located the bus and the two boys, who are 15 years old.

Capt. Paul Conlon of the Maplewood Police Department told the news source, "During the investigation, it was determined that the bus had recently been stolen from a storage yard in Orange and the three juveniles had ridden in the bus to Maplewood."

Based on property the three teenagers had in their possession, police linked them to a burglary at the service station.

All three teens were taken into custody and initially charged with receiving stolen property. Detectives are still investigating the case and further charges are expected, according to Maplewood Patch.
