Senate confirms nomination of FMCSA administrator

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Senate has approved President Obama’s nomination of Anne Ferro to serve as administrator of the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

Ferro served as Maryland’s motor vehicle administrator between 1997 and 2003, where she established a strong record in highway safety, regulatory compliance and agency leadership. She has extensive experience in driver and vehicle safety, having led the agency’s efforts to establish a graduated licensing program for new drivers in Maryland as well as a model for older driver research. 

Ferro is currently president of the Maryland Motor Truck Association and serves on several regional advisory committees relating to freight planning, highway safety and transportation funding. In 2008, she was selected as Maryland’s Port Woman of the Year.

“The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s mandate requires a strong leader who can meet the challenges that come from a diverse industry, and that person is Ms. Ferro,” Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Interim Executive Director Stephen Keppler said. “Ms. Ferro has proven that she is committed to working with a wide range of stakeholders, including CVSA, and understands the important role that states and roadside inspectors play in ensuring highway safety.”

Obama announced his intent to nominate Ferro as FMCSA administrator in June.
