Ohio state pupil transportation director Pete Japikse has been elected chairman of the National Congress on School Transportation (NCST) interim/steering committee.

Japikse succeeds former Indiana state director Pete Baxter, who held the NCST position for the past five years, culminating in the 15th congress in Warrensburg, Mo., in May.

The National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services nominated Japikse to serve in the role for the 16th congress, which will be held in 2015. A two-month voting and confirmation period, as directed by NCST procedures, wrapped up Wednesday with Japikse being affirmed as chairman.

Japikse heads the Ohio Department of Education’s Pupil Transportation Office. He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry.
