COVINGTON, La. — St. Tammany Parish School Board members approved a resolution as a response to increases in school bus maintenance and operational costs.

The resolution states that school bus owner/operators in Louisiana have experienced substantial increases in the cost of maintaining and operating their buses without receiving accompanying increases in their operational allowance.

It also states that attracting and maintaining school bus owner/operators has become increasingly difficult for the district, as well as others throughout the state, and that “school bus owner/operators should not meet with onerous expenses that discourage ownership.”

For these reasons, board members urged the Louisiana Legislature to provide additional funding to school bus owner/operators’ expense allowance.

A copy of the resolution was to be sent to members of the St. Tammany Parish legislative delegation and to all other members of the state Legislature.
