KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On Thursday, Sunnyview Primary School staff and family members planted trees at the school in a ceremony that honored the memory of two students and a teacher’s aide who were killed in a school bus accident, WBIR reports.
The crash, which happened last December, involved two school buses. The teacher’s aide, Kimberly Riddle, and students Seraya Glasper and Zykia Burns were pronounced dead at the scene.
The three river birch trees were planted in the yard in front of the school, according to the news source.
Dr. Jim McIntyre, the superintendent for Knox County Schools, said at the ceremony that the trees symbolize "life, growth, renewal and hope," WBIR reports. The principal told stories about each victim, and said they had a "continuous love of learning." The family members of the victims said they are thankful for what the school has done for them, and for the support they have received since the crash.
