School bus driver charged with DUI
Authorities in Tazewell, Virginia, say that no children were on the bus when the driver was arrested. However, she had just completed a route.
TAZEWELL, Va. — A school bus driver here was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated on Monday, officials said.
County Sheriff Brian Hieatt and Christine Kinser, superintendent of Tazewell County Public Schools, confirmed the arrest in a press release on Tuesday.
On Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office received a complaint that a school bus driver was suspected to be under the influence.
Police responded to the area and located the driver. Upon investigation, they arrested the driver and charged her with driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.
Authorities said that no children were on the bus when the driver was arrested. However, she had just completed a route. A police official told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the driver, identified as Stephanie Lowe, 37, could face more charges once investigators determine how many students had been on her bus.
Officials said in the press release that the sheriff’s office and Tazewell County Public Schools are working together to continue investigating the incident and that they “will take appropriate actions.”
